Sadly, the spread of Equine Influenza has claimed it's highest profile Standardbred victim. Blacks A Fake, winner of the past two Interdominions and heading for a third next February/March, has succumbed to the virus. Tests confirmed last night, 5th September, that he and several stablemates at the Tambourine property have the virus.
Despite taking all preventative measures, the highly contagious virus seems to have spread from a neighbouring property where horses have tested positive.
Prior to EI rearing it's ugly head in Australia recently, Blacks A Fake was racing in usual devastating style with 4 wins in a row including the Winters Cup at Albion Park rating 1:57.7 over the 2680m trip for his driver/trainer Natalie Rasmussen.
Let's hope 'Blacky' shows his usual fighting spirit and can get over this quickly.
And most of all, let's all hope that the lockdowns and containment of horses works and this awful virus can burn itself out. Although, I must admit, despite all the precautions, I personally fear this will spread a lot further yet.

Fantastic to see Blackie (Blacks A Fake) return to racing and thrilling that he has come back to his best, capping his return off to win his 3rd Interdominion title!! If he can do it again next year when the Interdominion is held in Queensland, he will be the first ever horse to win 4 titles - something to look forward to!!
An amazing horse - one of Australia's finest ever.
Accolades to Trainer & Driver, Natalie Rassmussen!! Go Girl!!
;D ;D ;D
